"Linc, NAG, inflated TMC (that
you can't see anymore anyway) and SRC, ability to "sell at any price" and not
get paid commissions. Management doesn't care that you make less money as long
as they get their bonus. No wonder quality TMs are leaving or looking to leave.
Is it just Albany or does the whole company have this attitude? WTF!!!" 7828
re: USF ALBANY/LINC/7825 -
"I must be over-tired. I can't tell whether or not this is sarcastic. Linc is
just the electronic equivalent of the call sheets we had to fill out when we
were rookies. I wonder if the VPs of Sales and RBMs around the country have
figured out that 80% of what
TMs write is pure BS. There are
some DSMs at my Division that spend more time looking at Linc than working with
the TMs in their districts. If they would actually get in a car and work
with their TMs maybe we'd have less turnover. Rookies are floundering because
their DSMs are not out working with them. Sometimes the old ways are the best." 7827

Tony Ingoglia, Sr.
Anthony "Tony" Ingoglia Sr., who started a major Northern California
food distribution business in a small truck that doubled as his
warehouse, died Saturday of complications related to age, his family
said. He was 98.
Mr. Ingoglia was the founder of Tony's Fine Foods. Based in West
Sacramento, the company distributes bakery, cheese, delicatessen and
food-service products to grocery chains, bakeries, restaurants and
other retailers.
He started the business with his wife, Adele, in 1934. The newlywed
couple settled in Sacramento and began distributing Italian-style
salami and cheese to grocery stores.
She took phone orders while he drove Highway 40 – the two-lane
predecessor to Interstate 80 – between Sacramento and San Francisco.
He made rounds and added customers along the way, keeping track of
inventory and prices in his head. He logged hundreds of miles,
starting at 3 a.m. daily.
"I was home every night, though," he told The Bee in 1997. "My wife
would feed the kids and wait for me. She wouldn't eat. I'd be home
at 9:30 to 10 o'clock, and we'd eat together."
Today, Tony's Fine Foods has more than 600 workers and dozens of
big-rig trucks at its 120,000-square-foot headquarters. The company
distributes products in California, Nevada and Oregon.
"He always called himself a little peanut," said his son Donald.
"Even though he built this big business, he would go out to the
plant and say, 'I can't believe that a little peanut could
accomplish all this.' "
Mr. Ingoglia overcame humble beginnings with hard work. Born in 1911
in the Sicilian town of Cantania, Italy, he immigrated to the United
States as an infant with his parents, Adolfo and Anna, and older
brother Joe at Ellis Island and settled in Boston.
By age 12, he helped out at the plant where his father worked
importing Italian specialty food. After a toboggan accident left him
severely injured and in and out of hospitals for three years, he
quit school in seventh grade to help support the family.
He moved to California and held several jobs before joining
California Salami Co. in Oakland as a salesman for Sacramento and
other areas in 1934. He talked the company into letting him sell
cheese and other Italian meats, and his business took root.
Mr. Ingoglia was married for 60 years, until his wife died in 1994.
They had four children, who took over Tony's Fine Foods before
turning the business over to the next generation.
"What drove him more than anything else was family," his son said.
"He started with nothing, and when you don't have anything in life
the most important thing is family."
re: PFG NORTHCENTER: "Just a week or so
to go before the fiscal year is over and perhaps the reign of Billy Bolton.
After all how many years can go by without making your numbers and yet you get
to keep your job? Sysco and Dennis Paper are praying that you keep your job as
they are having a ball kicking your butt!!! This writer has been right all year
with predictions. I said some DSM's were talking to Sysco and I called it when
Jane left. I said some account managers were talking to Sysco and I was right
that some moved over to them as well as Dennis Paper. And I am right when I say
that Bolton is the laughing stock of the sales force and that they are pulling
for Fred J to become the next VP of Sales. Get rid of a loud mouth bore who only
knows how to scream and yell and replace him with someone with a positive
attitude. Greg WAKE-UP and do what is right for the
sales force or face another year of under performance. My track record is on
the mark because people tell me the truth when I speak to them." 7819

Linc tool doing? Not a lot of penetration going on since your talk with

soon." 7818

re: USF SAN DIEGO: "If you really want
to know what’s TOO FUNNY FOR WORDS here’s true story about this sorry division.
A couple of years back a DSM quits and goes to work for a long time customer as
a buyer. Having suffered from short mans syndrome all his live he decides
to stick it to the division and give the business to Sysco. Shortly
thereafter things fall apart and he needs a job and guess what the division
actually hires him back. But that’s not the best part, after coming back
he loses another long term customer of his to Sysco. What he didn’t give
away he lost to Sysco. So now the division has lost two long term
customers with nothing to show for it but a salary expense. As the saying
goes, with DSMs like this who needs the competition." 7817

re: WORLD'S LARGEST FOOD SALES AGENCY:
"Big doings at the world’s largest food sales agency (WLFSA), as a stockholder
in the organization sues the WLFSA. Months of worry at HQ of WLFSA. Head
Imbecile tells all who will listen those famous Head Imbecile words, “He doesn’t
get it.” The world still waits with baited breath to identify what “it” really
is. This is the same guy who wouldn’t recognize a long term business plan if it
slapped him upside his Irish skull. But he knows for certain when someone out
there doesn’t get it. Said stockholder eventually loses in court. No great loss
there as depending on who you talk to he is either an arrogant shit, or a wasted
talent. Either way he wasn’t good for the organization. Meanwhile literally
dozens of other stockholders are on pins and needles waiting for the outcome of
the court case, as they have been having conversations amongst themselves, and
the swirl around the Head Imbecile is that they all want to sue too! Head
Imbecile has no real idea how many of them are out there. If he did he would
really start to drink. Meanwhile the WLFSA continues to rot from within despite
sudden and recent spasms about holding people accountable. When no one is really
accountable. It all rots from the Head….Imbecile, of course.
Eventually, and prognosticating here, after the loss of a couple large accounts
(how’s that whole growth effort with Perdue and Coldwater going?), and the
continual financial drain the WLFSA has created for itself with mismanaging
personnel and positions, the share holders will be forced to settle for 25% and
the company will molt into a new organization with different leadership, and a
solid determination to actually be accountable, rather than just talk a cool
game. In the meantime all those people who “just don’t get it, “ like the Head
Imbecile says, will continue to suffer from lack of real leadership and a lack
of a business plan to salvage the whole thing. It’s like a toilet bowl at the
WLFSA. It keeps going round and round and round. No matter how well shined, it’s
still a toilet, and there are still turds swirling around in it." 7800

to go! Take a long-term hard working person and feed them to the lions to

can see the blood. It takes a whole lot of courage to raise your hand and
point your thumb down just to hear the cheers of the mob by sacrificing someone
else’s life. Real courage I’d say! The reality is the “glory that
was Rome” faded into history because this kind of morality can’t sustain a
nation or a company. What the crowd and the Empire ultimately
realized is a dictator without a conscience can destroy in a few years what took
thousands of year to develop. In the words of Shakespeare “…I come to bury
Caesar, not praise him. The evil that men do lives after them.”
While this a joyous day for the mod, for those with a sense of morality it
should be an awaking to reality…life is cheap and without value in your Rome."

re: USF LA/7778 - "Saw Gene
going into the office this morning (Thursday 4/22). He did not look happy. I
don't know if it's his normal demeanor or maybe he was thinking about what a
mess he stepped into. Since the "So Cal Plan" was his idea in the first place,
will he have the balls to step up and admit he made a mistake? If he is going to
be cutting, let's hope he gets rid of most of the senior staff. That will free
up lots of money to hire more Cusotmer Care and Purchasing people. Our latest BDM, Clive, is
trying to get Sysco customers to switch over to USF. I wonder how may of these
Clive switched from USF to Sysco when he was in Walnut. Will he try to flip them
to the next company he goes to after he leaves USF? Can't wait to see what kind of
talent we will try to recruit. Don't expect the veterans to give up any good
accounts to them. Are we following the Sysco model and flooding districts with
new people? I guarantee most of them will be gone within a year of their being
hired." 7780
re: SYSCO BOSTON:
"sysco Boston It just seems funny the last time that there were
UNION talks and actually visible signs of the Union around, Senior management
was very concerned and around to smooth things out. In the last six months
they have been invisilbe. I personally would vote for the union just to
have someone different lie to me and kiss me before they slip it in me.
Just wanting a change, not someone to care." 7779
A funeral Mass was held Friday for Peter
Joseph Hunt Sr. of Tiburon, a longtime Marin businessman and
co-founder of Handi-Kup, who died April 3. He was 79.
Mr. Hunt was born April 4, 1930, in
Butte, Mont., to Joseph and Alice Hunt.
He worked in copper mines
as a diamond driller and attended the Montana School of Mines in
Butte before moving to the Bay Area in the late 1940s.
He earned a bachelor's
degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley in
1952.
Mr. Hunt served in
the U.S. Army's 25th Infantry division during the Korean War and was
discharged as a first lieutenant in 1954.
After returning from
the service, he earned a master's in business administration from
Stanford University in 1956. At Stanford, he assembled a report on
the fiberglass and petrochemical industries that would launch his
career.
While working as a
technical sales representative for Hexcel Products in 1957, Mr. Hunt
and his younger brother, J. Patrick Hunt, acquired a small plastics
fabricating company in San Francisco's Skid Row in a former
Salvation Army soup kitchen and named it Fiberplastics Inc.
"We really did start
at the bottom," said J. Patrick Hunt, 75, of Ross.
After years of making
a variety of products such as Christmas ornaments, crab floats,
mannequins and duck decoys, the Hunt brothers had their big break in
1963 when they became pioneers in the manufacture of Styrofoam cups.
Handi-Kup, a subsidiary of Fiberplastics, was born and Mr. Hunt
moved to Marin.
With its business growing, the
company relocated from San Francisco to Sausalito and later to a
40,000-square-foot plant in Corte Madera in 1969. The Hunts' venture
expanded to West Chicago, Ill.; Metuchen, N.J. and Jacksonville,
Fla., in the 1970s. Handi-Kup became one of the largest Marin-based
companies, with 200 employees in Corte Madera, and it was the
third-largest foam cup producer in the nation by 1980.
The brothers sold the
company to the James River Corp. in 1986 and it remains in operation
today as WinCup.
After Mr. Hunt's 1986 retirement,
he and his brother formed the Hunt Investment Co. to manage
commercial real estate investments, including the Hunt Plaza office
building in Corte Madera and other properties in Petaluma.
Mr. Hunt was involved in many
local and professional organizations, serving as the director of the
Marin Chamber of Commerce from 1973 to 1976 and from 1989 to 1992;
chairman and director of the Marin Coalition in 1978-79; on the
advisory council of the Bay Area Air Pollution Control District,
starting in 1969; and director of the Society of the Plastics
Industry from 1981 to 1983.
Mr. Hunt married Dotty Depenbrock
in 1984. He and his wife split their time between Marin and Hawaii,
visiting family and friends and playing golf after his retirement.
He fed his artistic passion by painting portraits and landscapes.
Mr. Hunt is survived
by his sons David Hunt of Naperville, Ill.; Peter Hunt Jr. of
Novato; Paul Hunt of Berkeley; and daughter Dana Doss of San Rafael;
stepchildren Margaret Owens of Novato and William Wolf of Huntington
Beach, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Hunt's wife, Dotty,
preceded him in death.
Donations can
be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars or the American Lung
Association.
Pete was a great guy, and I'll miss talking to
him at family gatherings. - Steve H.
re: USF L.A.: "Here is what you can
expect from the tried and true old school handbook of foodservice. But
first an interesting observation…Gene is now stuck with the budget he forced on
LA. To force JJ out and protect his peewees in Corona and San Diego, LA
was stuck with a larger share of the budget…now it’s his, LOL. With
this hole on his port side, what will he do? CUT, CUT, CUT. If I was
a BDM I’d be very nervous. It’s hard to justify the big $$ unless you’re
bring in a whole lot of new business. Can you say bye, bye BDMs?
Every department will get chopped; it will be all about getting salaries out the
door. All of those promotions and marketing expenses; gone. It back to the
no frills environment, nothing fancy, nothing extra just sell. Oh but
you’ll be seeing lots of new sales people; all green behind the ears. The
old theory is you can grow sales by just adding bodies. And
guarantees/subsidies; forget them they’re gone. Operations you’ll need
more cases on the truck, no overtime with less supervisors; cut hours and
people until you meet the numbers. Administration, find a couple people in
every department to eliminate. If LA’s going to make the budget the belt
is going to get very, very tight and mark my words you’ll wish JJ never left.
Welcome to HELL!" 7778

is San Diego needs Fullerton to be able to survive. That without Fullerton San
Diego wouldn't make a profit. Pull Fullerton away and San Diego would sink like
a rock. However, this could change with Gene going to LA since he needs to
find a way to improve LA and not just cover up for the transfers of business
between the three divisions. Maybe he can arrange to steal San Diego's
life raft for himself." 7776

kicked your butts when we were at walnut and now you get to work with greatness.
We will get rid of you SD and LA losers soon enough. How does it feel that we
took your accounts when we competed and now were at the same company and were
still taking your accounts, thank you Jones your true to your word.
Quit your crying and just quit. Were going to continue to
make your life miserable and there's nothing you can do about it, go cry to
Graylon and see what happens. Once we clean out the sales department were going

Fred C, they made a movie named after you called "Liar, Liar",
it might be time to come out of the corner office and open your eyes to the
operation part of the business. Transportation is in trouble, not enough
drivers for the busy summer time. Also, when you told the warehouse that
they were on a new 5 8 hour day the purpose was to get the trucks out early and
not to be working 5 10 hour days. Well we should have known you were lying
because you nose was growing right in front of us. Way to go Pinocchio.
Keep up the good work!" 7772
re: USF LA/7768 - "So,
basically what you're saying is that we're screwed no matter who is put into
Jon's office? Looks like Jon's yesmen and
butt-lickers will be replaced by Gene's yesmen and butt-lickers. Too bad! Maybe
Gene will finally see that his brilliant Southern California Plan has totally
disrupted operations at all three Divisions. One thing Gene might want to
consider is rolling the Fullerton warehouse into La Mirada. Does it make any
sense to have two warehouses five miles apart? Evidently, it does to USF
Corporate." 7771

USF LA (WTF!) - "Those of us
who have been here for over 15 years have seen lots of crappy leaders come and
go. We just want to left alone, and be allowed to do our job. We don't need
management looking over our shoulders trying to micromanange us. We know how to
do our job. We understand how to manage our business. We know what to give away,
and what to get our price on. What we need from management is a consistent
direction. Not Deals 2 Grow or any of the other idiocy forced on us by
corporate. All Deals 2 Grow has done is reduce our margins. Customers see items
they regularly buy at prices DOLLARS below what they are being charged, and
their first response after seeing the D2G flyer is "Why haven't I been getting
these prices all along?" Most customers know that their rep has control over
their pricing. All they have to do is say "I can get ______ cheaper at
Restaurant Depot" and most reps are forced to drop their price to keep those
items. Luckily, Sysco is having problems of their own. Imagine the situation
we'd be in if Bruce Schwartz was still their President." 7770

re: USF L.A.: "I read the comments about
Gene with a mixture of humor and disbelief. Anyone thinking or believing
Gene can make a positive contribution neither knows the man or his list of
“accomplishments” since joining USF. Rather and blinding believing
“salvation cometh from the east” maybe you should consider these facts:
The Southern California plan was his baby, there’s been 100% turnover in the
region staff since his arrival, the division Presidents in Corona, San Diego and
Seattle are his handpicked protégés, the only divisions in 2009 making budget
were three small, immaterial but loyal divisions, and oh... he’s as inspiring as
a pet rock. The saying “be careful what you pray for” applies to anyone
believing things will get better when he cleans house. Then again maybe
Big Foot, the Loch Ness Monster and the Abominable Snowman really do exist.
For those of you who truly believe aliens landed in Roswell, please let the rest
of us know when they’re about to return so we can share your faith or better yet
maybe you should join Tom Cruise at the church of scientology and get out of
foodservice. It’s obviously too mentally challenging for you. Than
again maybe these positive comments in Foodservice rumors are from the Oracle
himself speaking from his shrine in the desert seeking to reveal hidden
knowledge in preparation for his second coming to rapture USF LA and become
their personal partner beyond the plate. I think you get the point...you're

new york market. Gary Salerno, who left USF as a DSM for Quandts to be a
DSM a few years ago. He left USF complaining and bitching about Speed and
the rest switches back to USF as a DSM. Was it for the money or was it to
jockey for an eventual position in Florida where he has a second home.
Then, Fred Alexy, all time top producer and roundtable winner switches to his
long term nemesis, Sysco. Mix this with comments about USF going through
people like water. Then, there is the rumor that USF/Albany is closing in
the Fall and also the rumor that Speed wants Tedesco back in his VP sales job,
but Tedesco is happy as hell in his current job because he can hide his
incompetence so easily. The only people that know about his incompetence
are his reps and no on will listen to them." 7765

re: USF SOCAL/7756 - "Jon Jezierski
is the first management casualty of the SOCAL plan. Let's if USF Corporate and
KKR/CD&R have the guts to get rid of Graylon McFall and Boyd Mulloy too. The
sales force would like to be able to go out and sell and not be saddled with
uselss, time-wasting things like Linc and Merlin. If the DSMs were out with
their TMs, they wouldn't have to look at Linc to know what their people are
doing.
I don't how many people have left. Not many have gone to Sysco. The level of BS
is twice what it is in La Mirada. Those of us who are left try to do our jobs
while fighting against the ridiculous edicts coming down from the corner
office." 7763
re: USF ALBANY: "How many TMs and
customers, especially impact customers, does a division have to lose before
people are held accountable? This place has lost a substantial number of
sales reps, impact customers, cases, lines, and sales dollars. At his
first sales meeting, the VP of Sales asked the entire sales force, "Do you want
to have some fun?" Well, the only one having fun is him with his sidelines
activities and the rest of senior staff that takes whatever they can take by
manipulating numbers and manipulating people to the point that they have gutted
Albany of good people who think for themselves and try to do the best they can
for the company and business. BS's philosophy is "If you can't be
manipulated and you won't do what my sick distorted sense of logic dictates,
you're out." What a place. Real nice job on the so-called "Retention
Pillar." How many TMs have you turned over in the past 6 years? This is a
joke." 7762
re: MAINES CUCKOO: "There's a remake of
"One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest." The new star is C.E. Totally out

that's that's stupidly unrelated to work, he can't keep his mouth shut to save
his life, makes up stories about his heroic this and that, treats people like
they're idiots, totally manages through intimidation and fear, and way too much
more to list here. Thank you for giving him a week off to do whatever it is he
does in the backwoods of Pennsylvania with his shot gun and his tractor.
He'll probably put on his tall muddy boots and white hood and meet up with his
buddies or something. Do us an even bigger favor and see if his health
insurance covers personality transplants. This guy is a a disaster waiting to
happen." 7761
re: NEW SYSCO BUILDING: "I entertain the
idea that Boston Sysco lets one building stand as a ward. I have a few ideas
naming the floors. 1st floor- Ted Benson floor, this will
also be known as the cry baby floor if you don't get your way. plenty of direct
lines to the corporate office. 2nd floor- Nick Pitch
floor, this will be a place wigler and mealey can get matching tattoos when nick
is on light duty Chris will take care of Nick on this floor
3rd and final floor- the Steve Davidson floor also know as the main light duty
floor or use all the sick hours then go out on LD year after year Signing off

re: USF SOCAL: "USF SoCal - The exodus
in Southern California continues as employees throw in the towel and customers
turn to the competition. Two years and counting since the implementation
of this failed plan with no relief in sight. While the originator of the
dumb ass plan obviously has a vested personal interest in avoiding the truth,
the failure is too big to ignore. Employees with hundreds of years of
combined experience have left the buildings, replaced by neophytes whose only
qualification is blind allegiance to a dithering nincompoop possessing the
vision of a blind swami. Zombies and lemmings have replaced
professionals and those who remain work in an autocratic environment in a
perpetual state of panic waiting their turn to be ushered out the door.
Like Stalin’s purges, USF Southern California will be left with loyal but
incompetent soldiers unable to withstand the competition. Good luck USF
Corporate…it will take 10 times the effort to reverse this problem than it would
to stop it. "All that's required for evil to trimuph is for good men to
do nothing". Get your head out of your ASS and do something." 7756

re: SYSCO: "With
the recent announcement of Steve Smith retiring at the end of the fiscal year
and the relatively recent retirements of Rick Schnieders and Ken Spitler, the
current CEO, Bill Delaney, has an excellent opportunity to return SYSCO to the
business philosophy and people philosophy that was established many years ago by
Mr. Johnny Baugh and the other pioneers of this once great company. Mr. Baugh
often stated that the most important things to SYSCO occurred on the streets
with its MA’s and DSM’s not in the corporate offices. When Mr. Baugh, Mr.
Woodhouse, Mr. Lindig and Mr. Cotros retired, Rick Schnieders took our company
down the wrong path and forgot that our middle name is “Service” and taking care
of our customers was basic. His philosophy was to make money buying rather than
selling and if you are aware of SYSCO’s growth for the first thirty years versus
the lack of growth for the last ten years, even Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid
might recognize which philosophy worked. Old Timer" 7755
re: USF SOCAL/7744 - "The
SOCAL plan has given many long-term, loyal TMs and DSMs the opportunity to use
their talents against us when they left for Sysco and other competitors. None of
the Division Presidents, the Zone President, and Regional VP want to acknowledge
what a colossal farce this has been. All three Divisions still deliver in each
other's territories. La Mirada gave up millions of dollars in PROFITABLE
business and got s**t back from Corona. Corona has been lax in bringing over
products that our customers regularly ordered from La Mirada, forcing customers
to go to other companies for those items. San Diego, under the stellar
leadership of Boyd Mulloy, has lost people and market share. Webb's Fullerton
warehouse still has not been folded into La Mirada. Why do we have two
warehouses five miles apart? If KKR/CD&R and USF Corporate has a "top secret
plan" I wish they would let us know. Personally, I think the plan is to
sell USF division by division without any care as to what will happen to the
people who have given their lives to this company." 7754
re: SALMONELLA: "I was recently turned
down for employment with a National chain for employment because I
was without a degree in Microbiology. Maybe the crew at
the Factory will read this and so many others who buy into the current
hypocrisy of our the National state of affairs and come to a realization of what
is really needed in our daily life. A company
contracted me to evaluate why there was so much salmonella in there products.
It only took a day or 2 too reveal the cause of the problem.
When a worker is picking vegetables on Piece Work for there compensation

Great job!!!! I recall you saying hire slow fire fast so what is Greg waiting
for? You must be busy practicing your golf swing for all the outings that are
planned. You should only work that hard with the sales force to make budget.
Perhaps one of your real goals next year is to find a job you are good at and we
do not mean VP of sales. Belgrade Golf is looking for a
starter perhaps you could apply for that." 7752

Mr. Potiris made his fortune serving
delicious, hearty meals 24 hours a day, seven days a week at
family-style restaurants. A lively mix of cops and truckers,
power brokers and and late-night revelers dined on
all-American fare at his eateries.
Mr. Perry's "was called 'City
Hall South,' " said former
Sacramento City Councilman
Terry Kastanis. "I had a special booth there where the city
manager, the planning director and other bureaucrats came."
Mr. Potiris opened his first
restaurant, the Trukadero, on
Stockton Boulevard in a 1968 business venture with Atlantic
Richfield Co. He invested $10,000 in savings and borrowed
$42,000 despite the advice of his father, who owned and ran
restaurants in
Iowa during the Great Depression.
"My dad told me, 'Better you break
both legs than go into the
restaurant business. You'll become a slave,' " Mr. Potiris
told The Bee in 1995.
Mr. Perry's opened on
Alta Valley Drive near
Mack Road by 1974. It became an instant landmark with a
giant American flag atop a 50-foot pole.
After
Arco quit the food-service business, he renamed his first
eatery
Original Perry's. In 1978, he opened Kallie's on
Stockton Boulevard as a dinner house offering prime rib and
seafood. His trio of bustling restaurants within a half-mile
radius of
Mack Road and
Stockton Boulevard became known as "the Greek triangle."
"My dad was a perfectionist when it
came to restaurants," said his daughter,
Martha Potiriades. "There had to be a doily under every cup
of coffee and a piece of parsley on every plate that left the
kitchen."
ericles
George Potiriades was born in 1926 to Greek immigrants in
Mason City,
Iowa. He served in the
Navy during World War II, when his surname was shortened to
fit on his uniform.
He donated to many groups and causes, from Methodist Hospital
to the World War II Memorial in Washington.
He offered a warm smile and firm handshake on daily visits to
each of his restaurants to welcome customers, pitch in for busy
workers and check on minute details. Neighborhood residents
became regulars, and many employees worked with him for more
than 30 years.
"Mr. Perry's was by far the best restaurant in all of south
Sacramento," Kastanis said, "and it was all because of the
graciousness of Perry Potiris."

re: USF SOCAL:
"Who would you like to comment on the success of the Southern California Plan?
I’m willing to bet it hasn’t generated the millions of extra dollars of EBITDA
that was projected and promised. Not surprising, no one believed it then
and reality is proving us right. With the turnover at corporate maybe no
one is left to hold anyone accountable for the stupidity of this plan. Or
maybe they’re actually dumb enough to believe it’s not the plan but fault of the
people terminated for “their” inability to execute such a strategically
visionary idea. We need some motivating insights on the ultimate success
of the plan. Surely we just need to be patient. Ultimately with the
termination of just a few more people and waiting a couple more years the plan
will germinate and we’ll be walking in tall cotton. There’s got to be a
top secret plan to restore us to our former glory and if we just mindlessly
believe in our leaders, USF will return and dominated Sysco in Southern
California, or maybe NOT."

quick left, he'd break his nose. I don't know if Jon and Fred have any money
left for six-figure guarantees, so stay where you are. The way things are going,
KKR/CD&R might sell USF So Cal to Sysco." 7743

GREED/ATLANTA SHOW: "Before Sysco foodshow - I met with some packer
reps and they told me what the show allowances were going to be. Get to the show
and Sysco stole 20% of the allowances that were to be for us their
customers. The $1 we were getting on several items - ended up in the book
at only $.80. $5 allowances I was sure I would get at the show - were in
book at $4. F****** right we will be watching for better allowances at the US
show and reject Sysco orders that are booked if US does not do the same. Shame
Sysco - stealing from your customers that are making shows like this

The buyers can be consolidated as well as the Human Resourse department or at

tensions will remain high as morale will sink even lower if that is possible.

re: USF SAN DIEGO/ANON 7726 - "Hey, KKR/CD&R! Don't you care what is happening

demise of San Diego part of Graylon McFall's plot to run Southern California
from Corona? After, San Diego is closed, will La Mirada be next?" 7739
re: WOW!: "My DSM contacted me about a
coup d'état if they left the company would I be willing to go? I believe
that people work for people and not companies so even though I'm happy here I

treat new Sysco employees better than your long term loyal employees, that
will come back to ruin you. BS was successful in LA because he cared about
people and the bottom line followed. When you focus on the bottom line and
disregard the people you end up in situations like a mass exodus of employees
leaving. Corona is going to be very interesting this year." 7737

re: DEATH OF AN INDUSTRY - "Sysco is also being sued
by the same sharks. All distributors will raise pads to raise money to pay
expenses. Look for the smaller distributors to merge or close if they can't
afford to pay their reps' expenses. This will also affect every other company in
California with a commissioned sales force. It doesn't matter if you sell
liquor, office equipment or building supplies. One thing
that might be done will be to move some small chain business (5 to 10 units) to
street reps to give them more commission. Costco already
delivers and they have opened a "Costco Business" in El Segundo, CA and other
places. I have heard Restaurant Depot may start delivering also. Since
neither of these companies employ commissioned sales reps, they will be cheaper
than the traditional companies no matter what their size." 7735
re: 7719/ALBANY: "Buddy, I'm not sure
what you're talking about. At US Albany, we're all
about opening, penetrating, and Linc'ing. Our VP of Sales himself has made

penetrating and wishes the entire sales force were doing the same. And you
can ask KP about that if you'd like. There are plenty of people in the
sales force who know about it as well.
So while you're whining about having to Linc, some of us are actually enjoying
it and we're opening and penetrating. Right CT?" 7734

selling time is lost between working on Linc (you're supposed to log in after

you what you already know. You would think that KKR/CD&R and USF Corporate would
be looking for ways to make our jobs easier. How about speeding up the

No worries, Art’s trained his 3 replacements. Michael’s should celebrate at their

division VP’s, it’s the employees, it’s the union’s, it’s not my fault.
Well, corporate the longer you listen the less there will be when you finally

re: DEATH OF AN INDUSTRY: "Goldstein,
Demchak, Baller, Borgen and Dardarian, civil rights and worker's rights class
action attorneys based in Oakland CA, with co-counsel Hinton Alfert & Sumner,
the firm represented a class of Territory Managers employed by U.S. Foodservice,
Inc. in their claim for unreimbursed business expenses. The case, Burdick
v. U.S. Foodservice, Inc., was filed in Alameda County Superior Court on
February, 2009 and was assigned to the Complex Litigation department.
Their claim was that Territory Managers are outside salespersons who incur
substantial expenses for use of their private automobiles, cell phones, and
other items of personal expense, but their employer forces them to bear these
work expenses in violation of California law. The state
of California agreed forcing US Foodservice to pay penalties to the class of
TM's for back expenses and to institute an expense reimbursement program
covering mileage, cell phone, and reasonable office expenses. While this
immediately affects the California branches of US Foodservice the precedent has
now been set and will no doubt influence how the remaining food distributors
sales forces go to market. The company has
responded by attacking commissions in order to salvage the bottom line.
Customer delivery minimums have to be increased to "suppliment" the expenses
that until now had been borne by the sales force. In
order to survive the street sales force is going to be forced to lop off at
least a third of their "bottom end" businesses that can't meet the new $ minimum
delivery requirement. These include the independent street accounts that order
once or twice a week and may sometime be over and sometimes be under the
delivery profit minimum. For $5 commission for the off chance that the sale rep
can get them over the dollar minimum, it will not be worth the time. These
accounts will go to the "new competitors"-the Jobbers. Guys in a truck picking
up product for several restaurants at the Costco's, Sam's Clubs, Jetro's, and
Restaurant Depots. They make a loop into the cities picking up specialty items
as well as commodities for a delivery charge and mark up.
It only makes sense that the focus then be on the large accounts in order to get
the drop sizes up so that we can get paid for what we do, however the "top end"
business has already been poached by "leveraged buying groups" at low margins,
and the distributors have already agreed to give up good margin for easy volume
with these vultures. With that in mind the distributor model will have
to convert to a "salaried rep" in order to function within these new perameters.
In the midst of the US Foodservice push to, as their moto states on their trucks
"become your partner beyond the plate" it is not beyond the realm of possibility
to see a full reversal to an industry full of salaried maintainance customer
service reps. Sysco Foodservice is already moving that direction by offering
their sales force salary or commission. After the
shakeout of the commissioned sales force, an internal event which will probably
be invisible to the restaurant community as a whole, will be the second wave of
this conversion and that is the elimination of service and flexability to
the customers. Sysco has already instituted straight line routing, a cost
cutting model that sends a truck down one side of the street and then up the
other, without regard to the size of profitability of the accounts and their
desired delivery windows. The transportation team answers to Houston
rather than the individual distribution center so local needs come second to
profitability of the corporation. As technology
improves on the restauranteur end of the equation look for the future to be on
line. Distributor sales forces will continue to shrink as call centers
replace them. Perhaps outsourcing of distribution will replace the
transportation department. What ever the future holds for the foodservice
distributor, we know that the industry has been forever changed by this lawsuit
in California." 7721

A
prominent man in Seattle politics and one of the area's best known
business owners has died. The president of Services Group of America,
Thomas Stewart, 64, was killed in a fiery helicopter crash in Arizona
Sunday.
Officials with the
Scottsdale-based food service distributing and real estate firm
confirmed Stewart's death on Monday.
According to a press
release, the SGA helicopter was en route to Scottsdale Air Park from
the Flagstaff area when it crashed. SGA reported that a total of five
passengers were aboard the helicopter when it departed from the
Flagstaff area.
Peter K. Smith, president
and COO of SGA, called Stewart a "visionary."
"He had a clear and
concise continuity plan for the enterprise in place and was completely
confident in the current leadership team," he said.
Arizona State Sen.
Jonathan Paton eulogized Stewart on the Senate floor on Monday, saying
Stewart died in the crash along with his wife and one of his children.
The Eurocopter EC135 went
down and burst into flames at about 3 p.m. MST Sunday in an area known
as Cave Creek, just north of Phoenix. Friends say Stewart, his
wife and daughter were flying from their Paradise Valley Arizona home
to their ranch farther north.
It's not clear what
caused the helicopter to crash, but 911 callers reported smoke and
loud noises and saw parts flying off the helicopter before it crashed.
"I saw the helicopter
flying in the air and that stuff that goes round, up, the rotors were
coming apart and then I said, 'OK something wrong is gonna happen,"'
witness Nicoleta Nork told KTVK-TV. "And I just saw it rolling,
rolling and boom, then big smoke and yeah, terrible."
The area is a mix of
rolling hills, dry desert washes and lots of houses. The chopper came
down in a wash between two homes, Smith said.
"It's a pretty horrific
crash," she said. "It's just obliterated."
Although Stewart spent
much of his life in Washington and still has property here, he moved
his family and his company to Arizona in 2006 after Washington state
enacted a new inheritance tax. The company is Arizona's second-largest
privately held company
King County Council
Member Peter von Reichbauer learned of his friend's death from one of
Stewart's sons late Sunday night.
"I don't think we've all
his family and his friends have got our hands wrapped around the idea
that he's not going to be around saying something next week.
Von Reichbauer and
Stewart have been friends for 35 years, sharing a love for business
and politics.
Stewart was well known in
Washington politics, hosting annual picnics on his Vashon Island
estate for the Republican party.
In later years he had to
pay $5 million in fines for illegal campaign contributions. But his
good friend says in no way should that be his legacy.
"He always stood up for
what he believed in, rightly or wrongly, Tom was his own man and he
went into businesses and he leaves this world as his own person," said
von Reichbauer.

re: USF/7714 - "7714, you
mentioned a lot of things that get in the way our doing our job. What it all
boils down to is: OPEN
ACCOUNTS, MAINTAIN/PENETRATE ACCOUNTS,
and COLLECT THE MONEY.
Everything else just gets in the way of these three things. Repetitive
meetings, endless voicemails from DSMs, RBMs and VPs, and misplaced focus on
Linc take away from our selling time. Being in front of the customer is how we
make money. Morale here is probably as low here (I'd rather not say where) as
at your division. I'm just wondering what KKR/CD&R have in store for USF this
year." 7715
re: USF: "Listen
up....this is your final chance. Your job requires the following, as a
minimum. Increase cases, margin up, even if we are the highest, add a dime.
Linc is mandatory, penetrate accts., collect money, ride with brokers,
training meetings district meetings, sales meetings, cuttings, open new
business, attend monthly TM reviews, blue plates, D2G, will calls, ride with
DSM (which is useless, I prefer him/her to stay as far away from my customer
as possible. Maybe he/she can learn 1st grade grammar (there, their, here,
hear, bear, bare, you get my point). The morale is pitiful, and not one
manager really cares, its all about the bottom line. I fear for my job each
and every day, I force myself to kiss the ass of M.B. just to make nice. Its
beyond my comprehension as to what he does? Can someone enlighten me?
I kissed ass today, did you? Wasted in Wixom" 7714

re: MORE INFO ON
STATUTORY EMPLOYEES: "Being retired has it's benefits. I can do
some research and not worry about having to get up early and work! No
need for me to get up early unless I am playing golf or tennis. Below is
a more detailed explenation of how this works. The employer would not be
liable for your expenses as all of you seem to be concerned with and I believe
the employers as well are concerned. The benefit to all of you in sales
is that you will pay less in Federal & State Taxes as a result of not falling
into the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) bracket which disallows you receiving
benefit from legitimate business expenses. The IRS has made these
provisions for all of you in sales while employeers have denied your right to
conduct business with this legitimate provision providing clear benefit to all
parties. Statutory Employees
Statutory employees occupy a sort of middle ground between independent
contractors and regular employees. They can be defined as workers in certain
occupations who would not be considered employees under the usual rules, but
who have been declared employees under the federal tax laws so that their
employers must withhold FICA taxes on their income.
If you are a classified as a "statutory employee," you will also report your
income on Schedule C or C-EZ, although your employer should give you a W-2
Form that reports this income and shows that payroll taxes were withheld on
it. Because FICA taxes have already
been paid by your employer on this income, you don't have to file a Schedule
SE and pay Self-Employment Contributions Act (SECA) tax on it. Just be sure to
check the box on Line 1 on your Schedule C or C-EZ, so that the IRS doesn't go
looking for a Schedule SE that's not there.
If you have both statutory employee income and other income from your own
business, do not combine these two types of income on a single Schedule C. You
must file two Schedule Cs, and only the income from your
non-statutory-employee business will flow through to your Schedule SE. Occupations that may be considered
statutory employees are: Full-time
life insurance salespersons who work primarily for one insurance company.
Agent drivers and commission drivers who deliver specified products —
individuals who (1) operate their own trucks or the trucks of the persons for
whom they perform services, (2) serve customers designated by their principals
and customers they solicit on their own initiative, (3) make wholesale or
retail sales, and (4) are paid commissions on their sales or earn the
difference between what they charge their customers and what they pay their
principals for the products or services they sell. Such drivers are "statutory
employees" if they distribute beverages (other than milk), meat, vegetables,
fruit, or bakery products, or if they pick up and deliver laundry or dry
cleaning. Traveling or city salespersons (other than
agent drivers or commission drivers) who work full time on the principal's
behalf and remit orders from customers who are retailers, wholesalers,
contractors, or operators of hotels, restaurants, or other businesses whose
primary function is the furnishing of food or lodging. The orders must be for
items that their customers will resell or will use as supplies in their
business operations. Homeworkers who work on a contract or piecework
basis, in their own homes or in the homes of others. For example, persons
hired to type up correspondence and to do other word processing jobs on their
home computers would be homeworkers. Statutory
employees are entitled to deduct their business expenses on Schedule C, and
must pay income taxes on their net income since their employers are not
required to withhold income taxes from their pay. Former
CFO & Retired" 7712
re: CLASS ACTION:
"No need to be concerned
about what you can earn. This lawsuit and the need to reimburse sales
associates will force all companies to categorize sales associates as a
Statutory Employee. This is how all should of been paid and compensated
anyway. Benefit is that you get to file a Schedule C on your personal
tax return giving you to write off all of your business deductions which
removes the Alternative Minimum Tax net that all find themselves in. By
doing this the average salesperson will pay $3,000 - $10,000 less in taxes to
Federal & State. Difference is you become responsible for paying your
State and Federal taxes on a quarterly basis. Look up Statutory Employee
and learn for yourself. The IRS even makes mention to the effect a Sales
Person selling food products in a city. Look at your W-2's and you will
see the box on the bottom. Former CFO now Retired" 7711
re: PFG NORTHCENTER: "It is possible
that yet another DSM is getting ready to head to the Blue Cube. The person seen
with Sysco management a few weeks back was talking with them again within the
past few days It seems as though Bill B. is acting more
strangley every day and the sales force is seeing no clear direction except for
threats from Piper and Bolton. If this DSM or DSM's make
the move they will take some others with them. Dennis
Paper continues to eat into Northcenter sales as well as an aggressive stance by
US. Great job Bill!!! How long has it been since you made your yearly sales
goal???" 7710
re: USF SOCAL PLAN/7708: Was "The Plan" designed by
Graylon as part of his power play to move all distribution to Corona? Or is he
KKR's spy and butt-boy?" 7709
re: USF SOCAL PLAN:
"It’s architect, no (s).
There is only one person responsible for this plan. It had no support in
the divisions and it was forced upon them. It never made any sense,
because no matter how he tried to structure the plan, LA kept going to Palm
Springs and San Diego and Corona continued to go to San Diego and LA. The
true loser was always San Diego. All attempts to cover up the fundamental
flaws of the So Cal Plan have only resulted in accelerating the problems in San
Diego. Literally the division has collectively lost hundreds of year of
foodservice experience with employees either walking out the door or being
forced out. Another buyer with over 25 years experienced just left.
A spirit of pride has been replaced with fear and defeat. A division which
was once a top performer is now dependent upon its small satellite location to
carry the weight of a crumbling division. Like Muhammad Ali a once proud
and strong division is now weak, crippled and dependant. For the Joseph
Webb employees who remember the glory days it’s hard and sad to believe this
could happen and even worse that no one cares. Why distroy a good division
with loyal employees? Unfortunately everyone here knows the “illness” is
terminal; its all just a matter of time." 7708

re: USF SAN DIEGO - "No too much different up
here in La Mirada. The suits in the corner office make their plans as if the
2008/09 downturn didn't happen. Is it still "a great day for selling?" It is, If
all you do is visit Disneyland, Marie Callendar's and the Navy. The architects of the "So Cal Plan" have no idea of all the turmoil they
have caused. La Mirada transferred a lot of business out but didn't get much in
return. I'm sure it made sense when diesel was over $5.00 a gallon. But the
reality is that La Mirada still goes east, and Corona still delivers in L.A. and
Orange County. I feel really bad for you
guys in San Diego. You seem to have gotten the worst of this deal. And speaking

re: SYSCO L.A. HISTORY LESSON: "Here
is a history lesson for Sysco LA. Many years ago a man named Bruce ran a
foodservice company and it was good. Bruce had a philosophy, surround
yourself with people that are smarter than you in the organization. The
organization had guys like John Kao, Jim Piegtal, Ken Light, Ken Dermer, and
Scott Bower. These people did a great job and built the company to what
it is today. He also had 3 people running sales.
Each one of them was very different but all of them brought something good to
the table. Tom, John and Phil were very competative people and this
worked out well. One day a decision had to be made and Tom was chosen to
lead sales. John got pissed and went to US and his people were
scrambling around trying to find a new leader. Not long after
Tom results were not good enough (because Phil kept wispering in Dan and
Saul's ear, "that's my job") and soon after he went to US. His people
all scrambled and a lot of them left to US Corona where they are now Happy.
This left Phil to run the empire. Phil ran the place like Saddam Hussein
. If you weren't with him you were banished. Phil is now gone and
all of his minions are now scrambling and looking for a place to run.
Clive was Phil's MINI ME and he couldn't survive without him. Andy is
now the man in charge and there is no more division. (other than Gordy and
Kevin upset that they didn't get the promotion) I think it is great to
see some old faces who built this company come back and help take this place
to the next level. Saul and Dan keep doing what you are doing and let
some of the people who really put thier lives into this company come back and
thrive. Sysco is still King in So Cal and that is a fact." 7693

re: USF SAN DIEGO: "The division loses
another long-term customer and the downward trend continues. Without the
Fullerton the numbers would really stink. Who’d believe just a few years ago
this division would look to “little” Fullerton for survival? The
downward spiral started with increased pads and forced conversions, but really
accelerated with the SoCal plan. While employees are let go for poor
performance, the individual who conceived and implement the plan remains.
Some peoples you know what really doesn’t stink. The really problem is
the harder they try to cover up the problems the more problems they create and
the worse things get. It all reminds me of Nixon “I’m not a
crook”. The lips are moving so you know its a lie. Wake up

Glen W. Bell Jr., an entrepreneur best
known as the founder of the Taco Bell chain, has died. He was 86.
Bell died Sunday
at his home in Rancho Santa Fe, according to a statement posted
Monday on the Taco Bell Web site.
The Irvine-based
company did not release a cause of death.
"Glen Bell was a
visionary and innovator in the restaurant industry, as well as a
dedicated family man," Greg Creed, president of Taco Bell, said in
the statement.
Bell
launched his first restaurant, called Bell's Drive-In, in 1948 in
San Bernardino after seeing the success of McDonald's. His
restaurant sought to take advantage of Southern California's car
culture by serving hamburgers and hot dogs through drive-in
windows.
The World War II
veteran next helped establish Taco Tias in Los Angeles,
El Tacos
in the Long
Beach area, and Der
Wienerschnitzel, a national hot dog
chain.
Bell launched Taco
Bell in 1962 in Downey after cutting ties with his business
partners and quickly expanding around Los Angeles.
He sold the first Taco Bell franchise
in 1964. In 1978, Bell sold his 868 Taco Bell restaurants
to PepsiCo
for $125 million in stock.
Taco Bell is now owned by
Yum! Brands and is the largest
Mexican fast-food chain in the nation, serving more than 36.8
million consumers each week in more than 5,600 U.S. locations.
Bell is survived by
his wife, Martha, three sisters, two sons, a daughter and four
grandchildren.
A private funeral is
planned.

Daddy N Me Cookies is not coming from Corona, Sysco LA, USFSD, USFLA, Goldberg
or even Inland Empire foods (AKA Vasta Land) You idiot, look in the mirror
it's called Karma! (That's right what comes around goes around)
Here are the facts, 1. When Bob was a DSM at Webb no one
on his team had any respect for him just ask anyone on the team. He treated
everyone like a number just ask Mark Harris! 2. Bob never
got along with his co-workers even when one saved his life. (BS you are to
blame) from what I've been told you should of let him flop on the ground like
a fish or put a hook in that mouth and thrown him over board. 3.
The best was don't park in his assign spot he would make you move your car.
4. The guy is a egomaniac just ask anyone who has work for
him. I will agree he was a good rep at one time, but (that was 25 years ago)
5. Bob what comes around goes around, all the people you
have screwed over the years you are finally getting what's due to you! You
have chase more people away from Webb, USF SD, and Sysco that were quality
people than Tiger Woods at the 19th Hole bachelor party 6.
Than there's the great son Garry, let's see Bob came off the streets and gave
his entire route to Garry and set up the Pillsbury dough boy for life. Garry
even reported to Bob at Webb; isn't that a conflict of interest. 7.
Bob, maybe JJ and FJ can use you remember you built the Inland Empire to the
power house it is today. I bet you can turn around LA too!
Enough about the past Bob, put the Motor home in Drive, turn up the radio and

was not a bunch of vindictive a -----s , obvious from the fact that they went
running back to Nick and US Foods after sabotaging Bobs district. The sad part
is that once again it’s another indictment of the lack of leadership at sysco
by allowing this to happen. They always run scared of the few malcontents and
adopt special policies to cater to those few whilst at the same time ignoring

re: 7456/SAN DIEGO:
"As I heard it when he was here
at La Mirada he was moved around and give assignments where he could do
minimal damage. He moved over to the region when it was discovered he
was the region’s spy. Good Luck USF San Diego!" 7668
re: OBSERVATION/7460 - "I've doing this over 25 years. This job was more fun
when there was more competition. You could make a good living and not have to
worry about trying to get every last item from an account so you could hit the
gross profit number and get paid. Restaurant supply DSRs didn't have to worry
about spoiled milk or rotten produce. Most reps are unhappy with all the
non-sales things they have to do nowadays. Useless meetings, clueless
managers, and endless reporting of the most insignificant things has taken the
fun out of the job. Add to this shrinking margins and customers who know
nothing except "what's your price?" make it a struggle to grow your business.
Formerly loyal customers going to Costco, Sam's Club, and Restaurant Depot.
Credit policies that would make a Mafia loan shark envious. God forbid, your
customer is one day past their terms. But this is a new year. I'm trying
to have a more positive outlook. I'm working on some new customers. We'll see
how things pan out." 7667
re: SYSCO BOSTON: "sysco of boston
hey my lord, now that you have made some drastic changes to the warehouse why
don't you take a hard look at your management team, there are to many of
them on third shift that do absolutely nothing all d-mac does is audit
hi-rise boards, let sos do its job he is useless cut the dead
weight" 7666
Happy Birthday Bourbon Bellon (Bellon Sales Associates, Indianapolis)

re: BOSTON WAREHOUSE HOURS: "sysco
boston. speaking on behalf of everyone in the building, we would like to say
that we were pleasantly surprised on the hours we worked the first day of our
five eight hour days. ( it was between 9 to 10 hours first day.) way to go tom
t. maybe they should do something about the supervision in the building, do we
need that much supervision? wait i know they need them to do audit's all night
and sit on their ass in the office and do their fantasy sports on line. from
know on they will be called the audit patrol. to everyone please try to enjoy
your family, ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!" 7665
re: BROKER AGREEMENT?: "Im planning to
represent a brand would you have a standard broker agreement I could look at?"
7464
re: SYSCO LONG ISLAND: "Im looking to
find out if Sysco Long Island is still on the radar? I read hat they are
moving it to Central Islip. I googled the address, it was a residential area."
7463
Happy Birthday Chris Carpenter (Regional Manager, Pate Dawson Company) from the sixth
January 5, 2010 Tuesday
re: PHILLY: "Philly will be in trouble
if Ernie takes takes over. Did you folks see that picture of him as a future
president. Sure hope they send him to a nice location, maybe Kentucky I think
would be fine. He has no skills when it comes to handling the sales force. In
fact he has more negative energy than positive about him. I would
never take him out on a sales call, especially to one of my national accounts.
Tom , please don't leave us." 7462
re: PFG/NORTHCENTER: "Now that the
second quarter is history did Bill and the Boys make their goal? I think
not!!! Bottom line might have been made with all the savings made in salaries
not being paid to all those who have left or who were let go. So what excuse
is to be used now? Low morale is killing the entire staff. I guess that
Richmond is happy not making sales figures because the VP of Sales has not
made a budget in such a long time and the excuses and promises just keep
getting redundant. Who do you blame next???" 7461
re: OBSERVATION:
"Why are so many people in our industry so unhappy? I spent 40 years in
the foodservice business, mostly on the distribution side, and never was an
unhappy as the majority of you complainers. If you like this business
you need to make the best of what you have chosen as a career.
This news and comment section would not have much to report if there were no
complainers. It is a good format for communication, but all the stuff is
just like watching the evening news on TV where everything is very negative.
Get with it in a positive way or find another source of employment.
May the New Year improve your outlook on the foodservice business. Good
luck!" 7460
New
Year Weekend 2009 - 2010
Happy Birthday Vance Allred (former VP Sales
Alliant Foodservice, now with Cereal Ingredients, Inc) January 1st
re: 7447: "Yeah the team of MG and SP
really know what is needed for their pockets first. LEGACY FS ALLIANCE is a
for profit company. What were they thinking when they did not establish
themselves as a member owned Co-Op, like UniPro and FAB, who at least realize
the importance of taking care of the ones that brought them to the dance so
the group as a whole will survive, and can compete as closely as possible
against the buying powers of USF and SYSCO. Giving this new
nonmember owned group a year at the most to die out. Putting members first is
the only way and that is being a member owned co-op first and foremost. It
would be in the best interest of all independents to form one large co-op and
my bet is that will happen with UniPro at the helm." 7459
re: USF PHILLY/7455 - "Don't you know? This is part of KKR/CD&R's master
plan. They can't wait for McGettigan to leave. KKR will put the most inept,
worthless person in charge, forcing anyone with integrity to leave. Look at La
Mirada. Our prez has gotten rid of anyone who wasn't willing to follow his
vision of being Sysco Junior. KKR will destroy USF division by division. Be
afraid! Be very afraid!!" 7458
re: 7452, 7453, 7454 - "Jon wants to be
Sysco so bad, he can taste it. If Jon took a quick left, Fred would break his
nose. Mike and Robert (aka Dumb and Dumber) do their stupid act at the sales
meetings. Nobody respects them or even listens to them. Battle of the Beef?
STAR-D. We haven't any kind of decent management here in years.
We've hired who knows how many people from Sysco. They've all told us how
Sysco operates. Jon, Fred, Mike and Robert continue to think that cute slogans
and fancy powerpoint presentations can motivate the salesforce. Meanwhile
Sysco drivers use bar code scanners to check in their orders, and print out
clean invoices on the truck. We have a warehouse receiving crew that
can't tell the difference between frozen and refrigerated products. 2011 is the 100th
anniversary of S.E. Rykoff & Co. It's hard to think of all the poor decisions
that landed us here." 7457
re: USF SAN DIEGO - "I
figured out what's wrong with San Diego. Two words: Boyd Malloy. He was a
waste of space at La Mirada, and he's evidently doing a bang-up job at Webb.
So much for USF's senior management training program." 7456
re: USF PHILLY: "Corporate
Help!!!!! You can't let McGettigan retire. If that pompous ass Ernie
ever takes over this place will really go to hell. Ernie is a Corporate
Climber who abuses everyone at this Branch. He is HATED by everyone but
tries to act like a big shot. I don't understand how Mcgettigan puts up
with him. Please---Please don't let this happen." 7455
re: 7452 & 7453: "The only broadline
distributor charging a fuel surcharge in So Cal is Useless Foods of La Mirada.
They need the extra $$ to put to the bottom line since Jon & Fred are loosing
people and business. They'll never make their sales plan for 2010.
Secondly, regarding 7452, Rob was a useless pile of donkey dung and Andy who
knows'. It seems out of the 3 regional Sysco has, he was the only one who
could speak logically and has a decent appearance. Don't
get your panties all bunched up. Sysco wouldn't hire Fred, Jon, Robert or
K-Mart Mike to load trucks. I laugh in your face if you think Sysco wants to
be like Useless. You'll never get a new system and you'll continue to do
exactly what you've been doing for the past 100 years. Failing. You'll be sold
and you'll start all over again with false hopes and promises.
I just heard they found a bunch of 10 key adding machines and rotary phones
from the old Rykoff building. Jon's trying to cut and save money.
Good luck at your failures to get into the 20th century. Still getting those
green bar reports?" 7454
re: FUEL CHARGES: "I would like to ask
the group a question. Which distributors have fuel surcharges and which do
not. How much is your location charging." 7453
re: 7450: "Neither Rob or Andy were
anything special with us and are simply being recycled over at SYSCO which is
a gain for us. Our leaders are set on making us like SYSCO while the big
secret is that managment at SYSCO has been in awe of our greatness and wants
to make SYSCO like us. Maybe we really are not that bad and just need to
have Jon, Fred, Mike and Robert apply for jobs at SYSCO. They will take
them too and that would be a great thing for us. Oh great ones please
apply and find your happiness at SYSCO like Rob and Andy. We are getting
better, are better without them, will be better without the Fab Four and with
patience it will happen. Our systems will be fixed when someone buys us
and until then we go to work with what we have and you know my New Year wish."
7452
re: APPETIZERS INC: "To Anon 7436:
Since Heinz totally screwed this business up they have now sold that part to a
company out of Wisconsin headed up by Pat O'Ray. I believe their company
is called "Golden Country." This new company is already off down the
path of screwing things up. They have taken away their direct reps; the
people that made "Appetizers" the great company it once was.
They have withdrawn all of their programs. I guess they do not realize
there is competition in this category. Heinz screwed it up so bad and
lost a lot of business and now Golden Country will definitely lose a lot more.
Stupid, stupid, stupid! Why would any company purchase a company that
was very successful and then try to change it all around (referring to Heinz)?
Oh, well...Happy New Year!" 7451
re: SYSCO L.A. VS. USF L.A.: "Just an
observation... Why can people leave US Foods and do well, while we have
recruited some strong people from them and they die here or are forced out.
Andy Moreno was considered a loser by Jon and Fred and is now VP of Sales at
Sysco at LA. Rob Resnick is the VP of Sales at Sysco Ventura. Ernie
Saucedo was a DSM at US, now he is doing well at Sysco LA. It doesn't
matter if you like or hate these guys they are holding strong positions with
the number 1 company in the Industry. Maybe we should listen more to the
Sysco people than fight them. Alan brought a lot of business from Sysco
and I know he could be difficult to deal with but I think he really wanted to
improve this place, but we were able to wear him down until he went back.
Maybe Jon, Fred, Mike, and Robert are the losers. US LA will never
succeed until these four people are gone. We have a policy in our
management of keeping weaker people around for job security. Jon keeps
Fred who is weak and Fred keeps Mike and Robert who are only there because
they outlasted everyone and say yes to everything that comes out of Fred’s
mouth. Mike and Robert were awful on the street. There are still
customers who talk crap about them and their lack of follow up. We
also have the weakest DSMs and now they can hide behind their computers
instead of taking some of the heat from my customers. We say Sysco has
great systems, when are we going to improve our system..." 7450

re: KRAFT INSANITY: "Has the Kraft CEO
totally lost it's mind - or is she going to fund this project from her
multimillion dollar bonus or cut more employee benefits to fund this project
while at the same time trying to raise funds for the Cadbury take over? Prime
example of throwing away good money . Just what in hell is going on at Kraft?
I have not seen a Kraft rep in months? Have they gone broker in food service?
does anyone have a clue?" 7449
re: USF SAN DIEGO/7446 - "Get a clue, 7446,
KKR/CD&R doesn't care what goes on in any of the USF Divisions. Read the
comments about Albany (the poster child for dysfunctional companies), La
Mirada, Philadelphia and others. If they won't come out to fix La Mirada, what
makes you think they give a s**t about San Diego? USF Clifton Park is being
sold to PFG. Doyou think they'll stop there? They will make more money from
selling off bits and pieces of USF than if they fix the problems and turn
everything around." 7448
re: LEGACY FS ALLIANCE: "It is about
time that a new Distributor Group came on the scene that addresses today's
needs. We won't mention names, but you know who is way too big, and thinks
they can take care of every distributor in America. In truth, they are stodgy
and slow, and only focused on the rebate needs of the huge distributors, like
PFG and Ben E. Keith. Mid sized independents need someone to look out for them
and help them to compete. Hooray for Legacy." 7447
re: USF SAN DIEGO:
"News flash---the division’s
long time produce buyer left the building this week for Sysco. He was
the only buyer respected by the sales force. He was passionate about
produce and an asset to the division! This division doesn’t need to fire
people, the good ones leave on their own to go work for Sysco, i.e. it's
reverse Darwinism at this division. Despite the BS, the reality is
nothing good has happened at this division in the last several years.
When is someone at corporate going to wake up and realize there is a problem?
HELLO is anyone listening or is this just a company of monkeys, “Hear no evil,
see no evil, and speak no evil”. By the time corporate figures out this
division has a problem it will have already circled the toilet bowl.
What’s the point of regional and corporate overhead if they can’t even
identify a problem before it’s too late? Here’s a challenge to all
the KKR/CDR Ivy league morons, come out here and find out how many GOOD
employees and customers have left and determine if the BS you’re hearing is
consistent with reality. If you think it is please let us know so we’ll
know it time for the rest of us to leave. Will the last Joseph
Webb employee leaving the building please turn out the lights!" 7446
re: USF SAN DIEGO/7440 - "The people at Sysco San Diego
must be laughing their asses off at this move. Does senior staff come to work
on the short bus? Is USF San Diego the next Division to be sold?" 7445
re: LA. VS L.A. - "A couple of other reps left the same time Alan
Michaelson did. One left because most of his route was Alan's old customers.
Why the other left, I don't know. He was here less than a year and was writing
maybe $20,000 a week. One of Susana's biggest accounts has a three-year
contract with USF. She had nothing much except for the Cuban chain. Lots of
once-a-month customers and credit problems. Corky left before he was fired. He
didn't open one account while at Walnut. He didn't take much when he left USF
anyway." 7444
re: PFG SPRINGFIELD HIRING:
"PFG Springfield is looking for Qualified Sales people. Paul G, please ask
around Sysco Albany I know for a fact, there are many looking to get out." 7443
re: PFG: "So Paul G
will be with the new Performance Group location in Albany. Go get em Paul. You
will have the support of the sales force." 7442
re: ALLENTOWN'S NEW
COMMISSION SCHEME - "That's just brilliant! Raise your prices to make more
money. Don't worry if your customers start to question why their prices are
jumping. Don't bother complaining to management when your orders start to
shrink and your competitors' products start showing up on your customers'
shelves. You obviously aren't cut out for this business. Sounds like a Bernie
Madoff is your Division President. I hope this isn't part of KKR/CD&R's new
strategy." 7441
Happy Birthday Joe Hurtado(Sysco Los Angeles) from the 24th

re: USF SAN DIEGO: "Stupid is as
stupid does! News flash the division rehires a sales manager who left
and went to a customer only to move the business to Sysco. Yes that’s
right the guy stabs his own division in the back and get’s rehired after
pulling a Judas Iscariot. How dumb or desperate is this? LOL. Seem
to unbelievable to be true???" 7440

re: L.A. VS. L.A.: "Who cares about
Moreno. He did nothing accept kiss Jon & Fred's ass to make them feel
good. We know who paritially filled that void once he left. I heard
Vasta was demoted to a sales rep and got no support from his boss. Corky
just did not perform and never took much from us. I have not heard much
about how Suzanna is doing and I heard rumblings we either lost another one to
them or are bout to. Anonymous" 7439

re: 7427/SO BAY SAM - "Well, it's nice to hear that stupid decisions are not
the sole province of JJ and FJ. Now you know how we felt at La Mirada when all
the Nestle's products were hidden because Nestle's decided not to pay
marketing (extortion) money to USF. If you give me a list of your customers, I
will be more than happy to get them what they need. " 7437

re: ALLENTOWN'S NEW COMMISH: "Allentown's
new Commission Plan ...Here is a recap of last weeks sales meeting: Our new plan is better. It really is
guys and gals. It really is better. We had to start bumping up our pads to
offset the more money we are going to give you but we promise the new plan is
better. We have run all of the computer models and this new plan will pay you
more money.
Lets say however that you happen to be in the SILENT minority and maybe you
will not be making more money no problem just gets your margins up. Our new
plan is better it really is. And if you can't get your margins up right away
we will work with you for a few weeks. Just get your margins up! If that
doesn't work? We will deal individually with you. Our good sales people really
should have no problem with this. The rest of you. Well maybe you should look
for new careers. " 7434
re: PFG NORTHCENTER: "Hey 7419 keep on
guessing and I am sure that the person you are referring to will get a good
laugh out of the fact that once again you are clueless as to who is keeping
you in check. The last time I heard that person is working with a number of
volunteer groups raising money and awareness about the hungry, the homeless
and those in need of services provided by hospice. I will advise him of your
ill will towards him and I am sure he will find it in his heart to forgive you
and your mean spirit. Now back to the fact that this just goes to show that
you are not a leader nor will you ever have the respect of the sales force
because you continue to bad mouth people behind their backs. I am sure that
you would find it hard to find someone in the sales force that has something
bad to say about that person. Greg when you are confronted with a possible formation
of a union within the ranks and if you only knew of how many people are
worried about their jobs since all they hear from management is lies you might
wake up and realize that you have a very big problem on your hands. Tell your
employees that what is being written here is not a lie. It seems as though
your VP of sales is trying to make a mockery of the truth in an effort to
quell the truth. Have a
wonderful Holiday!!!" 7433

Sysco LA decided we needed to switch our jams and jellies to Welch's brand ?
This is about the least preferred brand out there. They put Knotts and
Dickensons in the back of the book, available only by special request. This
inane action has "ticked" off a lot of my customers who have bought Knotts
,Smuckers, and Dickinsons forever.During these tough economic times,do we
really want to have our customers looking to our competitors for these
products.Welch's must of made them a "hellva deal"on their products in order
to get them to switch. As a long time loyal Sysco

being made. P.S. Great decision on the changes to the "Hot Shot"
